Avoiding Common Medical Billing Pitfalls: Podcast Interview

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Old Time Doctor's Visit

In this podcast interview, medical billing consultant, Jennifer Dever, discusses a number of practical guidelines you can follow to avoid the common pitfalls that plague most practitioners.  Now for those of you already working in the medical billing field, I don’t need to tell you how much money incorrect coding alone can cost a practice, a problem that becomes further compounded when there is not a proper detection system in place to identify, analyze, and correct such errors.  The marketplace is more competitive than ever and no practice can afford to absorb losses due to billing error, an unfortunate end when one considers that these errors are ultimately preventable.  Enjoy this podcast and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from others’ mistakes.

Debunking Diet Myths

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

One benefit of being a trained health and fitness professional is that I’m able to differentiate between the facts supported by health science and the myths perpetuated by pseudo science.  In terms of intensity and scale, perhaps no other health matter has been as continuously distorted as the matter of weight loss.  I won’t bore you with detailed illustrations of this phenomenon; after all, we all live in the same media space that markets these myths to us on a daily basis.  Because you are a healthcare professional, and others will be turning to you for sound advice, I think that it’s particularly important for you to become an expert on diet disinformation.

Katie Couric's Infamous Photoshop Diet

The following podcast interview presents an excellent snapshot of the issues at play.  You may hear certain beliefs you’ve always considered true exposed as myths, which is the point of learning; I’ve certainly reeducated myself on dietary principles throughout my career.  I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts.  Be sure to share them with the AU community.

How many doctors do you have? If you’re like most, you probably have one primary care physician who refers you to a specialist for whatever ails you. Once you arrive at the office of the specialist, you are inevitably asked to fill out a questionaire about your health history. But, just how accurate is your memory?

In order to protect yourself from being given a faulty prescription or superflous test, many now are keeping their own personal health records. Dr. Carolyn Clancy from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality provides tips in this podcast for people wanting to create a personal health record.
